That would be Sheffield that has had funding for Supertram (which nearly went bankrupt and had to be bailed out with more public money), world class sports facilities for the Student Games (which nearly went bankrupt and had to be bailed out with more public money), an ice rink, a complet city centre rebuild, a "National Museum of Pop Music" (which did actually go bust) and attracts goodness knows what other Government and European funding because they excel in failure, whilst Leeds leads and thus attracts some of the lowest funding for any similar metropolitan area in the country.I'll tell you something else funny about this - the wall of silence from Leeds MPs (yet again) who should be kicking up a mighty fuss right about now.

Hilary Benn won't want to rock the boat and probably doesn't give a stuff about the city anyway. It was just a vehicle to get him a safe seat.I don't know much of a Leeds pedigree for Mulholland, Hamilton and Challen either. Mudie and Battle are both ex LCC leaders but are the least prominent, in the media of all the Leeds MPs.

I remember when Sheffield got Objective 1 funding from Europe. This went to the most deprived parts of Europe. When confirmation came through that they'd got it, the Council threw a party for al the civic worthies to celebrate. A tax payer funded champagne party to celebrate confirmation of being one of the poorest places in Europe. Sick.

You've missed out Paul Trusswell, the MP for Pudsey and indeed Yeadon until the next election, who does look out for his constituents a lot but might not regard the arena as important to him. Mulholland, who might be my MP come the next election, is concerned about his constituency's links with Leeds, but we are rather parochial in Aireborough and Otley otherwise, so I can't imagine that the arena is high on his agenda.

Sorry Simon, yes. Our Leeds MP's are so anonymous media wise I couldn't be 100% sure who they were, with the exception of Benn without looking them up. I could only find them as part of a list of all MP's which I sorted by Constituency and picked out Leeds. I remembered there was also Morley and Rothwell mainly because Leeds Central and Leeds East were the most southern sounding invloving Leeds in the title but forgot about the West.

Oh, I forgot a Childrens hospital. Something Sheffield already has and something we in Leeds were promised, which there now isn't the money for, apparently. For such a wonderful city, we don't half elect a load of useless folk to administer it.

Was that council only affair? If it was I'm sure we would have got one for three times the original price that couldn't fulfill it's function and needed radical refurbishment after 18 months due to a failure of the innovative roof design?I'm sure there must have been some other involvement to stop them before it was too late.

The Childrens Hospital was to do with the local health trust,so i dont think we can blame the council for that. The pool fiasco was actually the bathing pool itself, rather than the roof. The pool had a moveable floor in one section, wher it could (ha ha ha) be lowered to a depth suitable for diving. The mechanism cocked up pretty quickly, and was left unworkable,in fact im not too sure if they fixed it.If only there was another option for a diving section in a swimming pool, one which was adjacent to,but roped off from, the main pool. One that could be built already deeper than the rest of the pool for diving, especially off multi height diving poistionsIf only someone could come up with something like that,oh wait a minute,it would be a good idea if it was in the city centre as well so everyone in Leeds could get to it.Cant see it happening though, not with the price of land in the city centre and all that.
