........ anyone from the 1970's remembers picking that blueish grey grit out of badly cut knees and elbows. You always seemed to crash your bike near a gathering of blue rinse old ladies 'Oh are you alright love'YES you'd scowl as you rode off quick around the corner, and only when you were out of sight could you start crying with the immense pain from such misadventures. Ah the smell and taste of blood too when face hit ground, lol.For Raleigh Chopper enthusiasts:-https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Rale ... tos_stream

What were those Raleigh bikes of the 1970s called? Obviously there was the Chopper and Grifter, the other names I can only remember vaguely cos it was usually older lads had them, like the Raleigh Bomber.

My bike was a Phillips Kingfisher and it weighed a ton! It always seemed, back in the 50s, that they built them from lead.

A few years ago when I was selling at Wetherby car boot sale the couple on the table next to me had a lovely BSA bike they gave me because nobody bought it and they didnt want to take it home. It was a BSA Star Rider in two-tone blue paintwork / chrome, it was a real 1950s classic ladies bike with no gears but wonderful 50s styling. Unfortunately I left it behind in a house I moved out of, wonder if its still there...? I can remember racing around Wetherby race course on it after I'd pumped the tyres up.
