Would this be the one on Whingate Road? If so they were out-of- this-world meat pies. Having been at West Leeds Girls' in the 60's we could just about get there and back in the lunchbreak. Known affectionately as Harry's pies. I seem to remember that the proprietor was a dapper little chap with a lady assistant (his wife?) who looked Polynesian or similar but with bright orange hair. Fab, fab pies! Briggy, you are dead right.Their pasties and sausage rolls were also killers.I was at West Leeds Boy' also in the 60's.You never know, we might have fought over the days last pie 45 years ago. --pass the sauce please.

By the way do you work for Bentley's?

The Beaulah at Farnley used to do great pie and peas, with mint sauce, vinegar, gravy. I haven't been in there for a long time though.

Hey Pashy 2, fellow West Leedser, we may well have done battle over the last pie, but the loser wouldn't have been too badly off because as you say, everything from that shop was great. I seem to remember they did brilliant roast pork sandwiches in proper chewy breadcakes and real butter. Ohh, Jamie Oliver just eat your heart out - none of your healthy stuff can hold a candle ..

You could be right Trojan, it could well have been dripping - all I know is that they were rib sticking, well greased, teenage appetite satisfying, hunks of fantastic REAL food! None of your grass, nuts and sticks rubbish.

Todds of Armley Town Street had an 'incident' with dodgy pies. They closed their shop and the two market stalls. The Town street shop never reopened, it's a bookies now. The two market stalls reopened as Sweeny's. Think about it.

There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
