Used to be a regular listener in the Kelner/boyd era,but recentlyit's going from bad to worse,Johnnie and Isma -CRINGE.The Star in an otherwise dull universe - Paul Carrington but he fellfoul of the powers that be by letting the lovely Katie Elizebeth'Legs' Lamberto have too much air time and she is now banished to the shadows. What does annoy me is the consant flash backs in sport and weatherand travel. The M62 is totlally blocked easbound at xxxxx,AGES AGO and yes .its a great goal for Leeds United scored by - HARRY KEWELL ???Very confusing if you've just tuned in.Time for some fresh blood I think
Consciousness: That annoying time between naps.90% of being smart is knowing what you're dumb at.

The first time I heard that expression was from Tom Courtenay on the Christmas special of "The Royle Family" - I'd never heard it before. But like Going Forward (which I really hate) it seems to have caught on.

You'll be relieved to know then Blakey that Mr Liver departed from whence he came at Christmas - If you miss him you can listen on line to Radio Lancashire TBH I never like John Boyd much either. And he seemed to be everywhere, weekday mid morning - John Boyd, Saturday afternoon sport John Boyd, Rugby League Sunday afternoons John Boyd, Friday night Rugby League (can you guess what my favourite sport is?)John Boyd. Saturday regional news John Boyd. Twice a week in the evenings John Boyd. And he seemed to be so smarmy to the "stars" he interviewed, and either patrionising or rude to those who phoned in. But miracle of miracles I went away on holiday in 2005 and when I came back from being ubiquitous, he'd disappeared completely from the R Leeds airwaves - and good riddance. However, as you say his replacement was not really up to much. Hard to please aren't I?

I may have mentioned before that I admit, along with many folks that I know, to listening to the awful station simply to derive enjoyment out of all the arrogance and conceit which is constant and unequalled anywhere. I really would be interested to know just how many genuine listeners they have. I suspect it is not an many as they would have us believe - as a huge amount of the air time is occupied by forceful brainwashing in which they virtually order and demand that we should appreciate their supreme talents. there is that dreadful "pseudo posh" woman who stresses the wonder of the station and rubs it in with "Why would you listen anywhere else ?" We start the day with three hours of purgatory from a duo describes elsewhere as "the Hell that is Andrew and Georgey." He WILL not pause for breath or be interrupted in his endless assertion of how wonderful and knowledgable he is, and even his accomplice - "Georgey spells her name just like George but with a "Y" on the end" - has her work cut out to fit in one of her affected shrieking guffaws or her special effect of being surprised - sharp intake of breath and then "NAYOOOH, NAYOOOOH, NAYOOOH, HA HA HA HA." Then we shall be treated to a detailed account of the digestive and other difficulties of her pooch "Derek." - just the thing to improve your breakfast !! Then there will be Andrew's ("DON'T call me Andy") yard by yard bulletin on how his epic cycle ride from Headingley to Broadcasting House is saving the Planet from extinction. The number of times the phone, text and E mail details are rammed at us all day long must be heard to be believed. Of course all the compliments from callers - "Great show A & G" or at lunchtime "Love your show Liz" hve to be laboured as well.As others have said, most of the news bulletins and traffic reports are ruined by thumping loud drums. Of all the crackpot traffic reporters they've had I think the latest, David James, must be the worst. Before we hear about the traffic we have to have a few barmy impressions and "jokes" - followed by a traffic bulletin full of remarks like "the M62 is stuffed", and non punctuated items which just sound like a string of meaningless figures and often incorrect road names ending in "MORE in fifteen minutes." Every quarter of an hour the presenters greet him as if they haven't seen him for weeks. So it goes on all day and evening. To be fair, there are serious minded and competent exceptions who do the job as it should be done. Lisa Gallagher and Paul Hudson do the weather clearly and excellently. Clive Settle and Michael ? Henderson read the newsproperly.I don't suggest for a minute that broadcasting, local especially, should return to the early days of evening wear, stiff white collars and bow ties in a sound studio - but certain it is that Lord Reith must be turning in his grave. There Trojan, so you thought YOU were hard to please eh ??
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Indeed Si, I must admit to a bit of a rant there , but I do find it difficult to be rational about such corporate arrogance and conceit like that which emanates from RL.I suppose I ought to take note of Michael Winner's remark in the TV adverts - "Calm down , its only an advert"

Have listened, since inception to Real, but have gone off it so quick. It seems that the conceited outlook of presenters is not a sole of Radio Leeds alone. As to Martin Kelner, Jeez, He used to air on Radio Aire in it's very early days and I had forgotten all bout him, till he took over on Real. I could not believe that they had gone from The very funny, quick witted overly camp presenter, who's name escapes me for the mo, to him. He tried far to hard. He was making up characters, a la Adrian Cronauer, (good morning Vietnam) and doing it so badly it was like the idiot bloke who takes over for him and makes up the phone in character "frenchy"Not listened to him since! Thanks god for my iPhone for traffic and my iPod for 120GB of music!! Radio is rubbish these days!!!!

I only listened once but I'd bet the camp presenter was Umberto, who used to be on GMR.I've always found Martin Kelner witty and easy to listen to. Apart from the fact that he's a Swinton fan I can't find a lot wrong with him.
