I've noticed that just under the Yorkshire Evening Post name on the front page of today's (15th) YEP it states "At the heart of Leeds your city your paper". That was not there on Monday's edition (14th) nor Saturday's (12th). I wonder if it being considered renaming the paper the Leeds Evening Post (or more accurately the Leeds Yesterday's News Post).

The YEP is clearly trying to cause confusion on page 37 of today's YEP about opening times for Family Notices announcements. In large font in one block it states the office is open on Saturday April 30th and on Monday May 2nd. In a slightly smaller font in a block immediately below it states the Family Notices is closed on both of those dates!

Nice article in this morning's YEP about some of the famous (and infamous) Tetley pubs in and around Leeds. There is a big picture of the Market Tavern, complete with prominent Bass signage in the windows....Article here (without the offending picture):http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... _1_3458523

The 'Retro' section on page 13 of today's YEP relates to August 1977. There is an error in one item that made me wince as it should have been easily spotted on a check. The item reads "The Irish Republican Army said it had mounted a bombing campaign in which 19 bombs exploded in the space of 90 minutes in Belfast, Lisburn and Dunmurray - a spokesman said it was in direct response to the planned visit by Queen Victoria to the province". Assuming that the spokesman had not got it wrong then the planned visit was by Queen Elizabeth 2 during her Silver Jubilee tour, not Queen Victoria!

They probably had to look up who the Queen was and plumped for the first entry they found. Error in your thinking though is, ' spotted on a check' - Do they ever

In the Retro feature there is an item about the death of Elvis Presley. In that item it states "The Yorkshire Evening Post carried the story on its front page on August 17, a day after the iconic singer died". It would not have made it in the YEP now the day after!

On a similar tack, the weekly freesheets (Times series, not the Advertiser) have all been quietly merged with most of the news content the same, certainly across the north side of town. They must be making enough to keep them going though - my wife had to put a job advert in for her school and it cost over a grand!
