Best pork pies are from Bentleys Butchers in Pudsey. We have a pie day at work & we all have a warm pie on a Wednesday morning. An extract from the website:PiesOur freshly made home cooked pies are near legendary, they have to be tried to be believed and attract custom from all over the West Yorkshire region. We are National Pork Pie Champions "2008 - 2009!!Our award winning pork pies and sausages have regularly featured in the Great Yorkshire Pork Pie, Sausage and Products competition and The Pork Pie Appreciation Society awards.all of our meat pies, pork pies, sausage rolls, pasties and seasonal fruit pies are made and baked - fresh, daily on the premises, and can be eaten whilst still warm from the oven.mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

In the early 60's there was a back street shop/bakery in Whingate called Endersbys. They sold unbeatable meat pies. You could also bring your own screw top jar and have it filled with hot beef gravy.Their shop window sign read NDBS which as a kid I thought very clever.Probably all gone by now.

I didn't know the chap's name, but I clearly recall a smallish fellow, rather tanned in appearance and with a little black "tache" - would that be Dennis ?? That was him. He sold up to run a florists with his wife.

Was always a Gledhills (in Stanley) stalwart but had a Hoffmann's pie at Christmas and whoah fella, best pie ever. They are Wakey pies but as I get mine From Cooper's in Rothwell, they qualify as in Leeds.
Ravioli, ravioli followed by ravioli. I happen to like ravioli.

I was in Otley today and a freshly baked batch of pork pies were just making their way into the window at Weegmanns as we passed.I couldn't resist....

Would this be the one on Whingate Road? If so they were out-of- this-world meat pies. Having been at West Leeds Girls' in the 60's we could just about get there and back in the lunchbreak. Known affectionately as Harry's pies. I seem to remember that the proprietor was a dapper little chap with a lady assistant (his wife?) who looked Polynesian or similar but with bright orange hair. Fab, fab pies!

But as you say, they werethe Doggie's doodahs! (Funny you should say that!!!!LOL).Another that closed for the same reason was Cardis' who had a few branches in Leeds centre,if I remember.Lovely growlers ALL! I remember the food poisoning incedent. I think it may have been Cardis, but can't be sure. But I think it happened one bonfire night, possibly at an organised event with pie and peas and there were several severe cases. The company involved had to close.

There was a recent case involving Newtons - Cardis Pork Butchers was a long time ago, and cost them the business; unfortunate circumstances but, still should not have occured.
