I'm another who, although does not post many messages, is usually lurking around and reading the threads. (I often visit several times a day popping on when son is asleep between feeding and nappy changing.)Even though I may not post often, I feel part of the "gang" and enjoy reading the banter between members. Without sounding like a weirdo, you kinda feel that you know everybody.....I have always lived in Leeds but I have learnt a lot about the city from this site, so thank you to all the regular and not so regular posters.

You echo the sentiments I was expressing above entirely chris. Whilst I've volunteered to help with the site, I think, as I have intimated, this would be little more than housekeeping - the way the site has evolved means it thrives and even requires the chat aspect. After all doesn't this personification and amicable social interaction between an extremely diverse membership, in itself serve to illustrate something about the nature of the people who are Leeds and who are just as important to the community and heritage as the 'bricks and mortar' we more generally discuss?Fev's family - a perfect example of how even the perhaps not always appreciated contributions which needed some moderation have had a positive side, giving us some light- hearted fun for a while (I think dsco must have missed their visit to the site - he's still talking to us )And we must remember there is a very distinct difference between remarks made in good humour and those which are clearly inflamatory in their making - after all, who could take offence at Arry, come to that who'd dare delete wiggy

I agree with you all too - like Dalehelms I'm not from Leeds, been living here 6 years, but I've learned so much from this site; it's truly fascinating and addictive. I work with people who have lived here all their life and I know more about Leeds history than they do!I log on almost every day, need my regular 'fix' of SL!!! And it is like you know everyone in a way - I'm sure that lots of new friendships have blossomed between people who are interested in the same things but would otherwise never have met! It's a fab site - long may it last!!!

In addition to meeting here in "Virtual space" it has been a pleasure to be able to meet up with various people off here over a pint or three, and swap stories, information etc.We must try and arrange a party again this year. The Old Steps Bar on York Place is available free at weekends for parties as it doesn't open then, and holds around 30 people. It might make a good venue.I used it at Xmas for one of my groups and they did a cracking hot buffet for £3 a head!Plus it has Leeds Brewery beers on tap!
Steve JonesI don't know everything, I just like to give that impression!

Yes it sounds like a cracking idea, this one i should be able to attend ,hopefully without some unforseen last minute circumstance preventing me from coming this time.If we do something then lets plan well ahead so more SLrs can come along. Also if its on a weekend we could do the much mooted "tour" around town, going to the various places of interest related to our thread topics, especially the skulls and Drapesys specialist subjectHopefully a Saturday afternoon into evening would be an ideal day for most people, and if we can book it well enough in advance then this could give people who work on a weekend to try and arrange some time off.
