James wrote: It now appears that a case of mistaken identity is asserted by one of the politicians alluded to in the media. This man will sue everyone in sight, and if he's innocent, so he should. (Note that the reported victim has withdrawn his allegations.) However many of those who have made such allegations would simply declare themselves (or already be, technically) bankrupt and he would not get a penny. In the same way as it is sometimes cheaper to pay off spurious Tribunal claims that have no merit. Sad but true.

Isn't this systematic of what's happened over years. Pay offs with gagging orders attached. Didn't the guy from Wales pick a photo from several the police showed him? The officer then told him the name and he divulged that name to the press? How very clever of the state, IMO. The new Chief of the beeb sacked after only a few weeks in his job for doing what should have been done in the Saville case, exposing it.

I'm happy paying the licence fee, knowing it's going to help fund the £450,000 pay off for George Entwhistle's 54 days work. The man may have been blameless for the first axed newsnight fiasco, but he had no excuse for the last debacle. Saying he didn't know, and he wasn't made aware of contents of programmes simply isn't good enough. The man was in charge, he had a bomb thrown on his lap when he took over as Director General, he knew full well how explosive it was. He should have made sure that any program regarding Savile, or the surrounding sex abuse should be brought to his immediate attention, and NOTHING regarding that content should be aired without him first been fully briefed, or him shown the program.Letting people do what they want with no control is sheer stupidity in times like that, especially as your still dealing with the last cock up when it happened. I first felt sorry with him having to deal with all this mess, but to see his lame excuses this time around, he was quite simply lame and pathetic. To hear him on the John Humphrys interview say that he didn't know about the program until the next day, when the whole world knew about it hours before it was to be broadcast. It was astonishing to hear.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q16kkOLvb4oFrankly he deserved been ripped to shreds on that interview.John Humphry's says to him surely you must have heard something about the program before it was aired, a tweet went out 12 hours before it was broadcast telling the whole world something was going to happen on newsnight, a senior politician was going to be named, and you didn't know about it, no one at all mentioned it to you, you don't watch the news, you don't listen to the radio, you don't use the internet, You heard nothing about it at all?You didn't think you should have been watching the whole Savile scandal like a hawk? To which he replied no every time. The BBC news director Helen Boaden and deputy Stephen Mitchell have also just stepped aside.

Could see it coming Phill,                                     I watched the Panorama special back on the 22nd Oct and it was apparent then, albeit cleverly disguised, that both he and Peter Rippon were being "hung out to dry".It was only a matter of time then as to when things would turn against him.Incidently,he's from around this neck of the woods, being educated at Silcoates school at Wakefield. Not just on this issue....i just don't think he was up to the job he was "given".I don't think his integrity was an issue....he came across as a decent sort of guy....just naive on too many issues. He may prove to have been the sacrificial lamb.

The problem is that all the BBC stuff is deflecting attention away from any investigation.as abusers are very good at manipulation,I expect a lot of focus on getting rid of people and closing down investigation by the media because it makes the likelihood of historic cases coming out less likely. One hopes that investigations proceed with better checks in future!I note a lot of tories are pressing for regulation of the press surely this can't be because accusations of parliament involvement seem to be aimed at their party only at present<G>.

The last investigation in North Wales in 2000 named 28 people who all allegedly abused children. What real chance is there of getting to the real abusers? They might get the odd pop star like Gary Glitter but pinning down statesmen will be a miracle. The state machine is a very powerful one.

Ask Tom Watson MP about his take on that idea.Just hope he's still about when the truth does come out.

And there you have it, Tim Davie the new B.B.C Director General ending his interview with Sky News rather abruptly.I bet he wouldn't do that with the B.B.C.http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/video/2 ... -sky-video

Watched a TV programme last night about a dead bloke whose appeal, magnetism and charismatic aura duped a (very) large percentage of the population.Who does that sound like then?
