Speaking of Corrie, I can't find Morley born Beverley Callard on here, or her daughter Rebecca for that matter.

I've had a quick skeg through the thread and didn't find any mention of Joshua Tetley and Son. OK Joshua was born in Birkenshaw but I don't know about the son, though surely he counts as a 'Famous Sons of Leeds'. Well I'll drink to that!

I've stopped drinking their beers on principal (ok I relented when I found they had cask mild in the "Top 'oil") but that's my only sin of backsliding.

I know the Tetley family of maltsters originated from Birkenshaw, but I'm sure Josh was born after they came to Leeds.Regards.

I've just looked up Joshua Tetley on Wikipedia and in his entry it states:- He "was born into a middle class family of Malters originally from the West Yorkshire village of Birkenshaw. His grandfather, William Tetley had formed a successful malters business in Armley, (at the time only a small village close to Leeds). The malters became a success and William, built up a business of wine and beer merchants in Leeds city centre (then a town centre). Tetley was the third born of four brothers, Isaac, William and James. Tetley's elder brother William died age two".

There is a sign in the window of the Scabby Taps that says "We sell Taylors beers - and they now outsell Tetleys. A sign of the slow decline?" or words to that effect. That tells you all you need to know.
