I assume regular visitors to Otley might know of "half-pint Bob" and his brother? They look like a pair of tramps, but live together in the Cambridge area. Bob is short, with glasses and no teeth, and his brother wanders around Otley and surrounding areas, with a fixed grin, hands in pockets and has a strange loping gait.

Think I know the one you mean with the fixed grin Si, He wears a very ill fitting suit and looks quite scary.I see him quite a lot in Guiseley and if it's off the beaten track when I'm out with my dog I usually leg it in the opposite direction (my dog is too small to offer any protection!) I always assumed he was a patient from Highroyds who now lives out in the community as he's been around for years.

That's him, Lilysmum. His grin has several gaps in it, and the ill-fitting suit is usually liberally stained with unmentionables, and he's often seen on Birdcage Walk, or sat on the wall outside the launderette at the junction of Leeds Road/Gay Lane. His brother used to drink a half in The Yeoman, but I think he was asked to leave due to his "aroma" clearing the bar in seconds flat!

I spoke to him in The Angel Pub and he told me he's got 300 piercings in his face. Put me right off my pork scratchings. He was actaully a nice bloke and let me take a picture of him on my phone. I'll put it up if someone can tell me how ...!? I've seen him or someone very like him in Morley market and Morrisons in Morley. He really does look frightening. I saw him again today in Morley Post Office - he was stood (stud geddit) behind me in the queue. I've just phoned my mate back in Leeds and he says Stud man can be spotted down the outdoor market on thursdays!
Sit thissen dahn an' tell us abaht it.

Quoting Wiggy'what about rachael? the tramp from the market? my mother in-law once told me that during the war rachael was a beautiful woman, but lost her family and never recovered.' I remember Rachel. I'm sure your mother-in-law was absolutely right Wiggy. She looked as though she had been beautiful - high cheekbones and very graceful. She had a disconcerting habit of squirting selected passers-by with an aerosol - any kind I think, deodorant, hairspray, furniture polish etc. Anyone know what happened to her?Does anyone else remember the Scottish chap who used to wander the city centre (I saw him usually on Vicar Lane near the bus station,) shouting the odds and putting the world to rights. Sad to say, he actually talked some sense, albeit a bit extreme!

I remember the white van well Si but I've looked in the phone book and he's not there now - dare one suggest that the bottom has dropped out of the business ?? LOL LOLI also remember the ever cheery (NOT) and generous spending (NOT) Half Pint Bob from the Bay Horse and The White Swan - gosh what a dismal misery if ever there was one.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
