The Beatles first tour after "Love me Do" was as an opening act on a Helen Shapiro bill, whether that tour came to the QH I couldn't say. What I do know is that we still have a mouli grater bought at an Ideal Homes Exhibition at the QH. It's brilliant for Parmesan for pasta and behamel on lasagne and mousaka, and also for Cheshire and Cheddar in toasted cheese and onion sarnies

The Beatles did play at The Queens Hall ! - 28/06/63 supported by Acker Bilk. They also played at the Odeon on 2 occasions -05/06/63 and 03/11/63(poster above is from second Odeon concert.) . - these dates comprise their only gigs in Leeds. (The 'Helen Shapiro ' tour of 1962 did not include Leeds)

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

(The 'Helen Shapiro ' tour of 1962 did not include Leeds) I remember seeing Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers and the Vernons Girls (plus the Tornadoes) at Great Yarmouth in 1962. I think Peter Jay was from Yarmouth. I never saw the Beatles live - we went to Leeds (there's a Morley lad speaking) to see the crowds when they came, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Fab Four - but we didn't, the Headrow was thronged with screaming girls!

Billy Smarts circus used the Queens Hall in the 60s and the performers used to use Swinegate bus garage canteen and in return we got free tickets. In the later years when pop concerts were on the garage foreman used to have to check the buses parked in Concordia street upper decks as they were beiing used for one night stands.

I remember the Beer Festival at Queens Hall in 1988 (perhaps 89) as I worked as a mechanic on mini-buses for Yorkshire Rider opposite (Swinegate Garage) and was on nights that week. Caught a couple inflagrante when I went to drive a bus into the workshop for service. Didn't see (or hear) them) until under the bright lights of the workshop - they didn't stay long!On Sundays there used to be a used car sales at the "back" entrance of the hall and punters often asked to use the pits in Swinegate to inspect the cars - we sometimes obliged for a fee!I also exhibited a couple of cars at shows in the 80s - Custom Car Show and Motorsport Shows. To echo what others have said we STILL need a decent venue for Leeds despite a number of suggestions and planning applications.

I believe the arena is still moving along nicely, steady away.

Left the trade for a "respectable" career with clean hands, 13 weeks of holidays and regular Ofsted inspections. Can we negotiate? - What % do you want?

Seeing I retired in 1989 Nick I will waive the %. You made the right move in getting out as when I see the service today it makes me cringe. All the best in your career as a teacher.
