As for the war medals/stars I have never thought of them as mine but only that I was the guardian of them in case I ever found out that relatives of the men ever laid claim to the awards. It was only when I was given the WW1 and WW2 awards for the now confirmed 2 Private Kitchen's that I became interested in such things and I then bought the few others that I have. I have not bought any since and am not a collector of such things.
At that time in the mid to late 1960s knowing that decimalisation was coming I started to 'collect' pre-1947 UK silver coins from circulation knowing that the pre-1920 ones were about 90% silver and the 1920 to 1946 ones were 50% silver. I've still got a small collection of each somewhere in a drawer! Around then I also started looking for rare coins such as the UK 1950 and 1951 pennies and knowing of my 'interest' in them my Mum soon found a few of each, which are also somewhere in a drawer. It was not long though before no more were found as other people would have also been looking for them.
