Good idea!

could new users have their first few posts vetted before they are posted onto the site?
and/or
can we elect more moderators to give a 24/7 cover. The current system seems to be 9-5
even if it means creating a new member type - 'spam remover' ?

Seems the security question is too easy, I don't believe it should be something that can be easily googled for non Lioners
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

That would work for potential new members who have a good knowledge of Leeds
but what about the potential new members who want to join so that they can learn about Leeds ?
If you cannot find the answer on Google, how do you achieve membership? :?

This site regularly demonstrates that even 'Loiner' members don't know all the answers about Leeds.
Most of the current members would fail a difficult/obscure security question-should they be expelled? :) .
Our site could eventually resemble a school staffroom instead of a classroom and playground.

We should make it easy for new members to join, BUT monitor their intentions by vetting their first few posts, before publication.
It's what happens on another site that I visit.

Regarding security questions, they can't be so obscure as to put people off joining, nor for them to require individual assistance from me or Google to sign up. I don't know the answer to the fountain question myself, so couldn't really use that :) It appears as TykeBhoy has pointed out that the latest spam messages are from accounts registered before I made the latest security updates. I will delete and block those accounts and hopefully we should see a reduction in problems!

As for mods, thanks for the offers MHoulden, much appreciated! Warrington if you are putting yourself forward let me know via ask@tyrell.mobi and I'll sort that out. Any others are always welcome, please just get in touch!

Actually less Spam than before. I've also pointed out to Duncan some more dodgy accounts will hopefully be removed, so with a bit of luck the new security question will reduce the spam flow to almost nothing.

I've removed a couple of spam posts that were made this morning. Sometimes spammers will post something as a new thread and then someone legit will reply to them with something like "go away". In such circumstances deleting the entire thread helps to keep the site free of off-topic clutter and shouldn't be taken personally. Just thought I'd mention that before people wonder where their posts went.

Looks more like a real person this time because (a) he/she/it has registered since the new security question and (b) has posted again on two of the threads.
