if another 3 million plus jobs magically appear i might start complaining about people who don't want to work, until then i wish they'd leave the jobs for those of us that do!

For those like yourself Si that are trying to seek work it must be soul destroying. You and all those in the same situation have my sympathy. Have a bit of sympathy for employers who are absolutely overwhelmed by job applications. A lot of businesses can't afford the expense of sending individual replies to thousands of applications.

Yes but a lot of applications are made via e-mail so it wouldn't be too onerous to at least send a message back saying that the vacancy was filled or at least a message confirming the receipt of the application. I went for an interview earlier this year and after a second follow up one I was slightly confident. I then heard nothing so I sent a message to them emphasising how important it is to aat least even get a rejection letter. I then got a rejection letter!

I work in employment services (namely referrals from the job centre to us) and get to see not only the quality but quantity of jobs available in Leeds today(or lack of), 'trades' as such are a dying breed, the amount of skilled "older" people we get are vast, and its a crying shame that this expertise is not always transferable to other sectors. If you are happy to work in retail, then Leeds has plenty of minimum wage opportunities out there!I have been on both sides of the fence myself - both my partner and I have, in the last 12 months been made redundant from our jobs, with a total wage loss of 17k a year, both having now taken 'entry level' wage jobs , which 2-3 years ago would have been at least 10k a year higher paid. I only hope with the new build of Trinity/Arena that the residents of Leeds get a better chance of employment..

My middle daughter worked for Connaught and was made redundant 4 weeks ago.She started at BUPA 3 weeks ago(with £2000 extra salary)She went to 7 recruitment agencies on the day she was finished (Fri)and had 3 job interviews on the following Monday.she also sent off 20 CV's for various admin jobs(email applications)she did get replies and offers but opted for BUPA.She is 24 years old and her wedding is planned for next Mayso she had to find work and she did.Unfortunately the younger generation expect employers to come to them nowadays,or they sign on.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Sorry about that. It seemed like a good idea at the time but perhaps it was late when i did it.Two other boards i am on told me they had complaints the next morning so i figured i'd change it elsewhere before the same thing happened. It was a bit, well you know what it was O_o
