I have a 'source' at the brewery, he is a project manager there. He said they've begun 'exit strategies', meaning the brewery won't be saved. As for Tetley Bitter being 'franchised' as such, he said it's very, very unlikely. Carlsberg have zero interest. For years, they've been slowly removing and taking away the heritage. They have no regard for it whatsoever. A few folk say they are almost jealous of it. It's very disappointing. One example I refer to is when they demolished the pub in the car park, which was a listed building, without telling anyone prior (what was the pub called?).

Yes, this seems to be the way of modern marketing. Instead of catering for existing markets, create your own (bottom-line based market) and bulldoze everything thing else out of the way. Simply add £millions in advertising and promotions and hey presto!Think McDonalds, Budweiser, etc.

Duke William I believe, still open in 1923 at least

The intention is , if possible, to save the Brewery AND the Beer. If that can't be achieved then the secondary aim is to have Tetley's bitter brewed to the same recipe at another site - but IN LEEDS .'Newcastle Brown Ale'??? don't you mean 'Tadcaster Brown Ale'?! Doesn't have quite the same ring to it! On the contrary! When I was a teenager, Sam Smith brewed an excellent brown ale (Samuel Smith's Old Brewery Brown Ale); very much in the Newky Brown style, but better - not least due to the superior quality of Yorkshire water. John Smith will probably improve on the broon ale too.Oh, and Tetley's; signed.
