It's the least looked after forum with mods and admins or anyone in charge i've ever been on.I really am surprised it's run so smooth to be honest.A minor miracle BUT DON'T MENTION THE GHOST VILLAGE ;-)

It was very popular, very busy everyday, loads of new topics to goss about... ... ... and then the site owner appointed 2 mods and an admin. NOT from the forum and it soon died a death. They started putting all kinds of rules into place, no swearing, no chatting about stuff that we always chatted about etc etc etc. About 150 of us joined another one run by an ex forum member and the original one is still going but it's like a ghost town now.
Sit thissen dahn an' tell us abaht it.

I think it says alot about the people who come here, generally all goes well and the need for harsh moderation has been little and isolated, but there is a case for someone to clean up the minor junk from time to time and shift things around now and again. As for the chat aspect, I know remember this was not encouraged at first but, I think it is inevitable that this comes to any forum sooner or later and generally, I think it has contributed to and motivated the discucssions, prompting people to take a lateral look at things sometimes generating new topics. I think too this brings a personal element to procedings and perhaps helps create a sense of belonging.

Ey up,Yes very remiss of us - no birthday celebrations this year. I think me and munki were so surprised to get through a whole year of it last time that we figured we deserved a pie and a pint...@chameleon - sorry about the lack of progress on the editorial element, I have written some draft editorial rules, but as discussed above it's about striking a balance between regulation and free choice/speech/etc. and I'm not sure I've got there yet. Also I've been fantastically busy with a project at work since Christmas! I'll get something out to all the "volunteers" (erhem) to have a look at this week some time. Also I have not been idle on the site development front - got some ideas for making this place easier to use and generally better, with some things that may address the question of retaining old/new site users and so on. However there is a lot of info to handle on this site already, and the priority has to be to make sure the existing resource is secure, before adding new functions and other stuff to make the site more usable. Going to be a slow process anyway, so don't hold your collective breath!Speak soon, dsco

Frankly i find the chat aspect enhances the overall experience on SLId like to think that most of the contributors on here are on friendly terms (though im aware i may have upset a couple myself from time to time)and that we pretty much all get on in cyberspace.Just think what it would be like if someone started saying no to Arry with some of his ramblings,Brandy with his top notch P*ss funny attachments, wiggys capital letter rants,The right reverand Steve Jones' voodoo plugging, simon m and his cellar, and of course the infamous Fev family.Personally i think the site works fine,we all self regulate because were intelligent like minded individuals who love the subjects on here and who also like a good laugh.Perhaps there are some administrative tasks that need attention, but the general spirit in which this site is conducted is fantastic in my opinion, its like a large family.just with an above average number of special needs aunties and uncles.

I totally agree Chris! I've seen some forums (fora!) where as soon as someone dares to make a joke, ten people jump in to shout "Off Topic". SL is a refreshing change. I check it every day, several times a day if possible, and even if there isn't an intriguing mystery to get stuck into, there is always some good conversation going which keeps up my interest in the forum, even if I don't always join in. I think the level of self-moderation is great on here, and there is always a good welcome to new people who join SL. It really feels like a community.Added to which, I've met some great people too!

I fully endorse what cnosni has said. SL is part of my daily routine. I don't post much, but I visit the site daily and watch all the happenings. I love it and don't even hail from Leeds, being Glesga born and bred.............and fall into the category of a special needs auntie, or even great auntie!
