The shop was called Harringtons, presumably it moved to Merrion street at some time, it was quite a trendy shop sellig Ben Shermans, Levi Sta-Press... ... ... etc. I think it was painted yellow outside and it was about the 3rd shop up from Vicar Lane. This was the early 70's!! Blimey! It'll be Crombie coats next!

Maybe Si might know, but I'm pretty sure that Dodge city was purpose built from the old buildings that were demolished. The site that was B&Q was the old munitions factory willson Matheson. I do recall that while they were building it they found a shed load of old munitions and had to call in bomb disposal to get rid!

I don't know about that, but I heard they found tons of brass cartridge cases in the canal behind Greenwood and Batley's. Any faulty cases were simply chucked out of the window!

I had a mate who liked to think of himself as a bit of a Crombie-boy, or 'suede-head' - we were thirteen at the time! He'd very carefully fold a red silk hanky into the top pocket as illustrated, and pin it with a fake ruby tie-pin. A Ben Sherman button-down-collar shirt, two-tone trousers, 13 eyelet DMs and a brolly completed the look!

They wore loafers or black Brogues. You could buy fake silk hankys on a card that you just slipped into the pocket and fake diamond tie-pins looked better on the red silk. They had to have three peaks at the back and one folded over the front of the pocket. I used to get mine from the gents outfitters on Armley Town Street, near the Royal pub(I can't remember the name now, was it Greenwoods??)Ahhh the memories!!

You could be right, Chris, but I definately remember the three pointed hanky! The pin was a fake ruby, surrounded by fake diamonds in a fake gold setting! A bit ostentatious for a skinhead! The white rose badge was from his scouts uniform, and maybe the boots were someone else's. I just had the gingham shirts - a blue one and a green one. I had a fish-tail parka in the early 80s, though!Wasn't there a series of paperbacks in the early 70s, called Skinhead, Suedehead, Chopper, etc?

Aye, by Richard Allen. British made pulp fiction, they're quite collectable now.
