Those who ran the theatre circuits wouldn't allow him to appear further south than Nottingham on the basis that no one south of there would be able to understand him - which p!ssed him off more than somewhat. I've only seen film clips of him, but what I've seen has been very funny. His catch phrase "she's looks like a hot un!! with a lascivious look seems fairly tame by today's standards, but I believe it was considered fairly near knuckle at the time.Given some of the words of George Formby's songs (Little stick of Blackpool Rock and Mi Little Ukele) I find this surprising.

Saw him a couple of times on film. One phrase rememberedwhen he sidled up to a buxom lass,rubbing his hands and saying " EEEEH! Ah cudWaaarm thee a treat!" Memories! lol
