They already comfortably outnumber every other chain, so where does it end?

The construction of a Tesco Express has very recently started where the Alwoodley Motors garage was on King Lane (close to The Avenue, Alwoodley). At the rate it has started the building will be up quite soon.

It's to be hoped the council knock this one back. It will be horrendous around that area if this goes through! They really are the greediest chain of supermarkets going!

Wasn't this site going to be B&Q when these plans were first proposed about six years ago? I can't see Morrison's or indeed any of the shops in the retail park standing for it but Tesco is doing its trick of offering the social/student housing in return for its store even though the housing was also part of the original plan.

Secondly, while I know that everyone has their own opinion, I personally loathe Tesco for being "soulless" and uninviting stores, and very very expensive as well - they never see a ha'penny of mine. For me, the previous title holder for "the pits" was Safeways.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

A little further up the A61, Tesco were applying to turn the "Mile Post" on Leeds Road into a supermarket, they were turned down, but then the location was within a few yards of a Co-op and Jack Fultons. They are of course wanting to establish a big store in Harrogate. Not that harrogate really needs them along with Asda, Morrisons etc and all those Tesco Express stores they are spreading about. They'd just clog up the Skipton Rd/Ripon Rd area and delay the 36.
I like work. I can watch it for hours.

I cant see the problem here. If they open up a store and put a lot back into the local infrastructure and local economy, create day-centres, jobs etc that's great. We are all individuals with a choice, and therefore can choose where we shop whether that be Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's etc etc.
