It's currently a clear sky and so it is likely to be a keen frost, unless it snows. There will though no doubt soon be heavy snow like there was on December 1st 2010 when I took this photo at the junction of King Lane and The Avenue looking up King Lane (away from Leeds). It's interesting that the snow is clear over the metal cover, so it must have been warmer under that!PS. Right now there is a nice about 80% Moon showing with Jupiter being the very bright object a bit to the right of the Moon.

Interesting you noted the metal cover being warmer and having no snow on it. It also gives away those who have skunk cannibis growing in there loft. There the only houses to have snowless roofs, so anyone busy doing any winter weeding be warned

It's quite common to see manhole covers free of snow especially on foul sewers where the temperature is usually a few degrees above zero and laid at a depth where they are not affected by frost action.PC

Excellent twenty-four hour and seven day local weather forecasts are available on the "meteoblue" website. The "mountain view pictocast" page is the one I use, and for the skywatcher, clicking on to "seeing" is great. Entry of places such as Scholes, Bramhope, Blubberhouses, Meanwood, and the like will result in a very localised forecast. It doesn't work for Bramley or Armley, so some of us suburbanites will have to make do with the Leeds forecasts.

My bins were due for a long overdue collection next week, it now looks like we won't have had our bins emptied at all in December 2 years on the trot thanks to a bit of the white stuff. We don't see gritter on anything other than main roads and bus routes round here. Which meant I couldn't get my car home for 9 days last time it snowed. This time around I'm hoping that my shiney new snow chains will save me having to park 1/2 mile away from home this time around.
