Good choice. I am actually surprised that Gerald Kaufmann hasn't been mentioned. He was also satirized in 'Spitting Image': usually as the bogey man in the dreams of Her Maj and Prince Philip. One scene had both waking up in a sweat after a nightmare only to find that Kaufmann was in bed between them.
Researching the men of the 10th West Yorkshire Regiment in the Great War. Ca Ira!

I used to live on Consort Terrace (LS3 so nowhere near Hunslet!) and was told by an old person of the street that Peter O'Toole lived on the now-demolished side as a boy. Also it was claimed that Jimmy Savile lived on the street as a young 'un too. Also, this is proper rubbish, but I read somewhere that Arun Nayar, the rich Indian bloke married to Liz Hurley, was actually born in Burmantofts.Rosemarie Ford from the late 80s/early 90s Generation Game (and now married to Robert Lindsay I believe) is from South Milford, which while not strictly Leeds has LS25 as its postcode.
