We now have "Continental Landscapes" in charge of grasscutting in Leeds.Apparently they were awarded the contract late last year to commence this spring and were here bright and early this morning. Got to say there's not the mess we got with Glendale on this (the 1st) occasion so lets hope it continues. I spoke too soon! Grass cut yesterday and what a flippin mess. It appears "Continental" are now working to Glendale standards or more likely have recruited the old Glendale staff. The old saying "a new broom sweeps cleanest" springs to mind although they don't have brooms they have blowers which don't have a chance of shifting the clods of grass all over the paths. Continental started well but have swiftly gone downhill.

Maybe there's a connection.....

Perhaps they were all former council grass cutters made redundant by the council who went to work for Glendale and now Continental.Said employees increasingly with low moral and pride in the job due to lesser pay, and tighter deadlines so the likes of Continental win the contract with the cheapest tender. That seems to be how it goes these days!!People are paid less and are expected to do more with no guarantee of job security

Very true Phill and a sad fact of life today, seems funny though how this new outfit turned up last time with all new machinery and did a very tidy job, probably because someone was out and about checking up on the standards of a new contractor's work they will have thrown everything at it. After they've been given the thumbs up and got their feet under the table the don't care.

Leeds City Council pays out millions for mowing, but cuttings collection not included.LEEDS City Council is paying £2m for a grass cutting contract that does not include the collection of the cut grass, it has emerged. The contract to cut grassed areas across the city including roadside verges and on housing estates – but not parks – was let to Continental in January this year.Following complaints that grass has been left in unsightly clumps following some cuts, council bosses have acknowledged the contract does not require the mown grass to be collected.http://tinyurl.com/cjbk3c4
Sit thissen dahn an' tell us abaht it.

A wetter summer will inevitably present one or two problems but you can't blame the contractors for the weather ! A dry spell will soon shift it(if we get one )I have no preference who cuts the grass but surely anybody can be better than the previous contractors...
I'm not just anybody,I am sommebody !

It's funny that the YMP is getting on it's high horse about what appears to be a perfectly straight forward contract - fancy a business not doing something they never agreed to do and that they are they not being paid for. It's a shame the YMP didn't decide to be similarly outraged when the number of fire stations across the county was being slashed (barely a mention), or campaigning against the blatant abuse of planning regs by large developers (who consistently keep applying for permission on green belt land whilst supposed priority brownfield sites are ignored) or the near monopoly a certain supermarket seems intent on building in the city.Another no news day on Wellington Street.
