Too true raveydavey - "by the way DON'T call me Andy, my name is Andrew - you should know by now because I tell you often enough every hour and I always back that up with jingles containing my name."Another infuriating habit, admittedly practised by most local stations and even Radio 2, to FORCE us to listen to their self obsessed prattling even when we're on another station set for the RDS traffic reports, is to leave the interruption playing for ages after the "traffic" has been reported. I can understand this being an error occasionally but I'm convinced that this is now regularly deliberate on Radio Leeds and the other Yorkshire locals. It happened twice in quarter of an hour yesterday - at 5.15pm and 5.30pm. In the first instance it was switched on even before the intolerable David James began to rattle off his undecipherable and unpunctuated "traffic" information and continued for minutes afterwards. In the second "bulletin" it continued for ages while Andrew carried on at his usual incredible rate scarcely gasping for breath. Sad to say that most of the BBC traffic reporters have forgotten their purpose long since, and now carry on ad infinitum as if they are auditioning for a comedian's role in a Social club.I've long since stopped saying "it can't get any worse" because it does get worse, daily !!
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Ms Green seems to be intent on expanding her positionwithin the Beeb. You can now text 81333 starting your message with the word 'Liz'or by e-mail - [email protected] the mere mortals employed by the BBC have to have theirname in full on e-mail addresses.

Re: Radio Leeds
Simon Peters who had his own program on BBC Radio Leeds, his father was Sydney Simons who owned Benjamin Simons clothing factory on Westgate and was a director of Leeds United.
I have just found out he has died in Majorca.
His proper name was Peter Simons, he suddenly left Leeds and emigrated to Majorca.
I believe he did some work for Thomsons as a travel guide also was editor of the the English speaking Majorca paper.

Re: Radio Leeds
I thought somebody would have mentioned Martin Kelner getting the push at Radio Leeds AGAIN.
Very shabby but I don't really expect anything better from them.
He had serious surgery last year and was off several months,RL did however pay him something
to be repaid when back full time.
Debt settled - then sacked.
The station is moving in a different direction he was told, same as he was before.
As a freelance I think he accepts that there will be changes but this does not excuse the way it was done.
Looking back through this thread you can see we still have the same old voices churning out the same old
dross, those that have been removed were replaced like for like.
Mention was made of the regulular full time presenters earning £40 grand a year !
Why on earth are they earning so much for what seems very little effort ?
The more things change the more it stays the same…............
Moving on, much the same applies on the telly side.
Why do we need two on the sofa on
Look North?
They do look a bit silly staring at camera waiting for their turn.
The maternity leave replacement Lara Rostron seems more capable than many that gone before.
On a final note about BBC Leeds.
The website is a total waste of time, many of the items are days old on a regular basis.
Perhaps the fortygranders could keep it up to date in their ample spare time ?

I cannot recall the last time I listened to a radio, and it wouldn't have been Radio Leeds anyway.dogduke wrote: On a final note about BBC Leeds.

The YEP website is just as bad for all the old news cluttering the front page, or maybe nothing happens in Leeds !!
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

Re: Radio Leeds
I must agree with Dogduke about them having 2 Look North presenters each reading their bit from the autocue.Do they think we'll lose interest if only one person is talking? And then there are the health, crime, politics and whatever reporters. Do they work on other regional programmes? If not, what do they do most of the time? If one person can present the main news I'm sure one person could present a two bit local programme, as in fact Leeds TV manages.
