'The region only needs one venue'No it doesn't. Frankly I find that statement offensive - I'm some way from decrepit but I would not easily volunteer an evening return trip to Sheffield, the discomfort at the end of the day would usually not be worth the pleasure of having been there. So I miss out on a lot that I would attend if there were somewhere to go which was more in my comfort zone, so to speak.I know Chris has managed to wangle this cause into almost every thread on here over the last couple of years () but, why not a Leeds venue? I might not agree with all the hype or the logistics of the location, but it would attract patronage from a wider area than Sheffhudersfax town can I'm sure - and thus allow more people than at present to enjoy what's on offer.

Did we, the good folk of Leeds complain when vast amounts of public money were spent on the Don Valley stadium (as part of Sheffield hosting the World Student Games, an event so finacially unsuccessful that Sheffield Council had to be bailed out with more public money before they went bankrupt), which took outdoor gigs away from Roundhay Park? No, we didn't - but we should have done.I swear, South Yorkshire won't see a penny from me again.

Pressure and momentum! YEP today:'Leeds MP urges music fans to boycott Sheffield Arena' says Lib Dem MP Greg Mulholland. Music fans are being urged to boycott concerts in Sheffield in protest at its attempts to derail the Leeds arena scheme.Sheffield MPs have been long-standing opponents of plans for the entertainment venue, which they fear could damage trade at their city's existing arena.Their lobbying bore partial fruit last week when the Government refused to approve Yorkshire Forward's proposed £18m investment in the Leeds scheme in its current form. And, although Leeds City Council bosses are adamant the arena WILL still be built, one local MP says it's now time to hit Sheffield where it hurts – in the wallet.Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "It is a disgrace the way some Sheffield MPs have sought to interfere."Everyone in Leeds should now boycott Sheffield Arena to show how we feel about that."Like many people living in Leeds, I have used Sheffield Arena – but I will not be doing so again."Mr Mulholland has also tabled an early day motion in the House of Commons condemning the Government's stance on the Leeds arena.Lord Mandelson's Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has said it will not approve Yorkshire Forward's investment unless further development work is carried out on the scheme. It says the work is needed to ensure the project provides the "best possible value for money".Yorkshire Forward, the region's publicly-funded development agency, needs BIS approval for investments of more than £10m.As reported in last night's YEP, council bosses are working on a fallback funding plan in case ministers continue to block Yorkshire Forward's involvement after the requested work has been carried out.Sheffield MPs have argued that the agency should not invest in a scheme that favours one part of the county over another, as its brief is to improve the economy of the region

It's called transformation Chris, prevelant throughout Government - pay someone twice as much as you would to do it 'in-house' and call the money not spent on salaries a saving.
