There is a story in the Y.E.P about it published today herehttp://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/lat ... 5425662The bottom of the story is ironic*Ambitious plans to extend the railway emerged from Kirkstall Abbey to the Leeds Industrial Museum, at Armley Mills, in 2006, but it never materialised*The same old-same old story for Leeds is that.Ambitious plans that never materialised Wished I'd have known it was having to move out of Leeds.Perhaps we could have got some council backsides kicked with a Secret Leeds campaign again.

Hi salt & pepper.As a child/young lad long long ago there was a Holbeck High and Low level station. Though passing almost immediately after leaving such as the Central Station I still recall eagerly looking out for the High or Low section that the train was not on (I seem to recall that however was usually, if not always, the Low bit). Well, trains were fun and I would still have been collecting train numbers then! I wonder what I ever did with my train and car numbers books?

When we used to visit doing maintenance work, we would be allowed in the signal box there to keep warm - provided we took our shoes/boots off at the door! One of the signalmen had a small elderly dog, possibly a scottie. For a party trick the signalman would say "'Ey, there's a dog in thy yard!" and the scottie would go charging off to investigate. About half way down the yard its breathing would slow it down to a gentle amble, followed by a self-important stately return.Simple pleasures.

Quite an interesting programme that, both in subject matter and a lesson in video editing - did anyone else spot a couple of very obvious continuity errors ( for want of a better word ).Firstly, while travelling in the cab with the driver of the train carrying the B.N.P. protestors to Dewsbury the outside shots were fairly well in order. Firstly crossing the viaduct over Churwell hill, then through Batley and then the passengers leaving the train in Dewsbury, the following shot as the driver was commenting on his departed passengers was back on the West junction at Leeds with the disused viaduct in the background.The second example was on board with the two B.T.P. bobbies on an emergency call heading out of the city, as the conversation flowed the shots jumped back and forth in and out of various locations in Leeds.Still a very interesting programme all the same. salt 'n pepper wrote: We used to have two train stations!Guess what the other one was called. I watched the first program on King's cross which wasn't too bad but I think they missed the boat at Leeds,I don't think the producer could decide wether to be informative or entertaining and in the end achieved neither.Too much time was devoted to places and events far from Leeds,although I remember an old controlller I worked with remarking "If somebody sneezes in *** Bristol we catch a cold in Leeds"Running Leeds station can be a nightmare at times,perhaps more attention could have centered on what went on to maintain services.The Co-ordinating Supervisor (do they still call him that) a Northern employee runs the job(from an office) according to the various train companies needs and liases with the Leeds West signaller.How many people who watched know that the signalling is controlled from York ?.More time showing how these people operate would have been more interesting.Do people know that much of the signalling is controlled by computers and the signaller usually only intervenes when needed ?Many of the people who have complaints( real or imagined)about the railway would never survive a couple of days working as some rail employees do never mind a lifetime.Rant over - Amen.

Man Vic train crew were the scruffiest EVER,but they would pretty much do anything you asked them to do to make a few bob extra.Many years ago a passenger on one of the late Leeds-Skipton services decided to get off the train because some tramp had got in the driving cab,it turned out the driver had a farm Skipton way and didn't bother gettting changed for his railway job.
