The toll in 1857 is listed in the cutting below. Coincidently, on the day that Mayall claimed tolls were removed, there were notices asking for quotes to collect tolls on the Selby & Collingham roads. The Selby one lists the payment that was previously made by operators collecting the tolls on this road . £880 for the main road and £101 for the Seacroft-Scholes branch.

That's the one I meant in my earlier post, Jogon.Quote:"There was another near Bramhope at the junction of Leeds Road and Old Pool Bank, by the quarry railway bridge abutments. There is a modern sign on it which says something like Toll Bar House."

Thank you salt 'n pepper for the location of the Otley toll bar for the Leeds Road, I did not know that.As I recall from teenage researchs, so should be verified, the location of the Bradford Road bar was on what is now a green at the fork of the Pipers Lane/Bradford Road and the Ilkley Road bar at Ackroyd's mill on the edge of town. There is a service road still going through the mill complex with access at each end. Apparently this allowed William Ackroyd to circumvent the the toll bar with his own traffic, and he was one of the Trustees!
