I pointed him in the right direction of a few relevant threads on S.L e.t.c. He didn't even have the common courtesy to type 'thanks' then hit the send button.Bad manners, and lack of courtesy really is a bug bear with me It was generally agreed that we could do without him as you know Phil.

And has that tree grown up from the abandoned toilets under the street? Is this the reason the Dark Arches have had a "road closed" sign at the end of them for the last few days? I had a quick look at the Dark Arches today and there are many lighting equipments set up in the stretch from Neville Street to the end of the metal road/footway bridge and at least some of the side chambers. Some lights were being tested in one of the latter and they were very bright. It is for the coming OverWorlds & UnderWorlds event. It should make the currently fast flowing River Aire look different.

According to this morning's YEP, the whole OverWorlds & UnderWorlds event is part of the "London 2012 Cultural Olympiad" and is funded to the tune of £500,000 by the Arts Council!!!Half a million quid? I like a bit of art as much as the next man, but in a time of austerity I fail to see how a project like this can possibly justify £500,000 of public money when libraries and care homes are being closed. What a shameful use of public money on the day the Leeds NHS Teaching Hospitals Trust announces 240 redundancies due to cost cutting.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, It's disgraceful in view of the cuts to essential services you've pointed out. It's funny as you say how they can find this money to promote the Olympics with these very unrelated arts and culture exhibits. The governments eyes are going bigger at the thought of all the income to be generated through the games, never mind about peoples jobs or health/care later. I'd sooner watch a clockwork train go round than the Olympic games. And as for the Queens Diamond Jubilee, I'd sooner watch paint dry. I wonder how many hospitals will have to close to fund that thing?
