I've never ridden up Rosedale, but have suffered over 'The Strine's with a lowest gear of 42 x 19 Then carried on up, over the A616, up to Cranberry Crossroads, & hence into Penistone, that's a heck of a drag in that gear.....It was almost 20 years ago, but I've never done it since with gearing like that!!

Thats a rather large gear for climbing, I assume you were on a 13-19 close ratio block?I remember riding up there and Lisa Brambani joined us, seemed to think it was a bit of a jape letting us men know how how easy is was to her.Mind you, she'd ridden all of maybe 30 or so miles from Mirfield, whereas we were already on the way back from Clumber park and had done something over 60 with a further 30 or 40 or more to go - she got some short shrift, when she announced,'Don't you me? I'm Lisa Brambani' as she merrily sailed on her wayTo which the reply she got from one of our crew was quite unprintable. Didn't help her really since a number of our club were on reasonably familiar terms with BB and her daughter and so were not all that impressed.

The following site allows you to place points on maps and see the elevation, I worked out East Chevin Road climbs from Gay Lane around (231 feet) to it's highest point at 776 feet. That is some climbing!http://www.daftlogic.com/sandbox-google ... titude.htm

I know it's a genuine 60MPH hill riding down it! electricaldave wrote: Thats a rather large gear for climbing, I assume you were on a 13-19 close ratio block?I remember riding up there and Lisa Brambani joined us, seemed to think it was a bit of a jape letting us men know how how easy is was to her Yes, a 12-19, or a 13-19 (7-speed) on an Orbit America, bought from 'Two Wheels Good'I think it was even before John Stevenson & Brant Richards worked there!!Lisa Brambani!!There's a name from the past!!!!It'd be interesting to see how she'd rival the present day girls ('ditto' with BB) in a road-race.. ie; Nicole Cooke, Emma Pooley, Lizzie (from Otley) Armitstead
