To a point, there has always been an element of this in local journalism (someone offering up a story / doing a substantial amount of the legwork) and given falling circulation, lack of advertising revenue and minimal staffing at the Yorkshire Morning Post then it isn't going to get any better. In that respect I have some sympathy for the OP, as I'd imagine there is never ending pressure to fill column inches, whilst at the same time resources are withered away to the bare minimum. That said, the YMP has borne an uncanny similarity to this website on more than a handful of occasions and it is already an in joke with the regulars.I've even considered posting a totally fictitious story and then seeing how long it takes before I see it in print... No doubt there is an element of a journalist looking for local features to add colour, etc but I'm with Phill on this one.Perhaps if our erstwhile journo friend wants something to fill the pages, he could start off with an in depth dissection of the plans to close several fire stations in the area and reduce cover at others - something the YMP has barely mentioned thus far? To my mind this is precisely the sort of issue that a local paper should be getting involved in.

jim wrote: Hi Phill, I regret that I seem to be causing confusion here (and am probably compounding it with this post!). I mentioned "pay" in my first post on this thread, and thought I had caused a misunderstanding by a comment you made. Then in trying to explain myself I appeared to make it worse. I believe we are of the identical opinion on this topic and can regard the matter closed. Best wishes Jim. Jim, you are not causing confusion, simply expressing a majority feeling differently. When I saw this thread early today my reaction was, 'Another one not prepared to help themselves'. My feelings about these are in keeping with most others and unless these are a worthy cause we normally delete on sight but I did wonder what the reaction would be!Whilst the request may be well intentioned, there is a wealth of data in here and anyone is free to read it but, if they can't take the time to research it themselves - they deserve very little help, particularly when they stand to gain in some way. Many of the postings on topics with subects of the nature of this request are often the result of genuine, time consuming research, many more are personal knowledge and experiences which will not be documented elsewhere.Whilst posting these here does put them into the Public Domain they remain the interlectual property of the poster. The use of this should always include a definitive credit and reference to the source if only out of respect. As much as we 'love to hate' the paper on here, we do make use of articles but always credit the source directly or by presenting as a hyperlink to the article.Sadly it has to be said that the presentation of any forthcoming article is likely to be less well written than we might wish. We all make errors and do not claim to be literary masters but I would have hoped for something better than 'easy-speak' (for want of a better phrase) in the initial post here - and the punctuation is not correct

Just to clarify, it was never our intention to lift anyone's work without giving them proper credit. The reason for coming on here was to give Secret Leeds a mention in the resulting feature and to highlight/publicise the work members have been doing in terms of researching the city.I had already made arrangements to go under the train station, under the Queens Hotel, down a sewer, under Temple Newsam House and under Millennium Square.Research is ongoing. The purpose of the original post was to invite anyone who wanted to contribute to the series of features to come forward - the offer remains open. There was and is no ulterior motive. Regarding payment, the newspaper has a policy of not making payments to anyone who appears in a story or feature, a policy I certainly cannot change.Kind regardsNeil Hudson

The first report in the YEP is on pages 16/17 of today's issue. It is about under the Queens Hotel. It has interesting images, particularly of the waterway under the hotel. For tomorrow's YEP it said "we descend into the abandoned subway and viaducts which lie under Leeds Railway Station". Edit added shortly after posting. I have come across a little over 3 minutes video of the underground visit in the YEP website. If it works this is the link to the video http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... _1_3834002
