Just because of one steep wooded hillside, threaded by winding narrow roads and a stream? Yes it seems so Chris, someone will have likened the area to some alpine part of Switzerland many years ago, the name will have stuck over the years. There is no definite link to Switzerland, just the visual comparison. Gledhow Lane, with its combination of hairpin bends, narrowness, steep gradient and high stone walls in a sylvan setting. An early view of the home of Sydney Kitson, possibly from the early 1900s, situated on Gledhow Lane. The area was formerly known as Little Switzerland. This road is still known by local people as Little Switzerland as it very much resembles a Swiss mountain road. It has a fairly steep gradient & a harpin turn very much like many roads in Switzerland. The house in the picture is situated on the harpin of the road & since this picture was taken has had a crash barrier installed infront of the front door. The house in the picture is now devided into flats. Photo, caption, and comment taken from the Leodis website herehttp://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?resourceIde ... OMMENT=YES
