It's public money being spent so it will need to be hopelessly drawn out, surrounded in consultants, risk assessors and specialist advisors and come in horrendously over budget.Plus with the amount of residential developments that have sprung up directly next to where the work will be carried out, working hours are likely to be restricted. Ravey are you after a job as one of these advisors . I possibly took poetic license as the article does say "by mid 2014" which could mean earlier. Could but ...............

Better still, through McDonalds would be better No way, them bacon rols are a god send when you book on for work at 4am.3 years does sound a lot but i would imagine that the construction above the river and the time constraints on when construction can take place at platform side (16 and 17 will proably require OHL isolation) which will be concentrated on weekends and nights will be the biggest factors in the time taken.Heres a link to a flythrough on youtubehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ee-g-8J0NOE But, cnosni old mate, really I was thinking of you - a drive through for your chuff chuff Indeed, top idea!

No evidence on platform17 last Friday either They are adding a McDonalds drive through to the plans apparentlyA note on how long the railway takes. The roof glazing at Kings Cross is being replaced, they just started at the weekend despite the protective screens being in place under the roof (to protect passengers) having been in place for about 2 years. This is the age of the train

Wakefield Westgate is effectively being rebuilt http://www.wymetro.com/news/releases/11 ... ldWestgate but will, perhaps suprisingly, be complete before the southern entrance for Leeds Station is due to open. The Wakefield project is 12 months away from starting whereas the Leeds entrance work supposedly began almost 6 months ago. I say supposedly as there is certainly no evidence of any work on the exterior (viewed from Neville Street) and though its about a month since I was in the station there was no evidence then of any preparatory work on platforms 16/17 and the overhead walkway. Is this lack of movement delaying the opening or part of the reason for the excessive time span for the works.

except that the station everyone in Wakefield wants doing up is the appalling Kirkgate which is more interesting architecturally! There is a piece in last weeks Wakefield Express on the fact that railtrack might be sued by the council to force them to cough up promised money to help rebuild it.Certainly no place to be hanging around in the dark (and I don't mean because it is haunted!).
Steve JonesI don't know everything, I just like to give that impression!

Being a Pedant its Network Rail.http://www.wymetro.com/news/projects/pr ... te.htmThey can make a silk purse ouf of the sow's ear but unfortunately it doesn't take it away from the local area which will still be a major reason for avoiding it after dark even if the station is made safer

A usually reliable source as suggested that someone may have not tied up the easements with the new apartment blocks owners to enable the new station entrance to be built!?The current entrance proposal has been promoted for almost 10 years, so if the above is correct it could be back to the drawing board. A relocation of the entrance towards Tower Works with a bridge link over the canal might be the pragmatic solution as it would open up large areas of development land and go some way to justifying the money paid by YF for the Tower Works site? The current location was never selected on the basis of its added value to the surrounding HUV proposals but driven by the station operator preferences. Given this is a public infrastructure project a little financial re-evalution of the wider benefits may be no bad thing in the current climate?

No nothing going on in the station.Strange as i was on Plat 15 only yesterday wondering what was going on with the entrance, ill make some enquiries tomoz. As for Wakefield i saw the schematic for the revised track an platform layout about 3 years ago.The palnd then shoed that platform one will be extended towards Leeds,it will then be split by a set of buffers placed at the south end of platform one,and will facilitate the arrival, standing and departure of services in the direction of Wakefield Kirkgate for what looks like a two car unit. This will remove the necessity of terminating units from Kirkgate having to be shunted into Wrenthorpe to clear Plat one for south bound services from Leeds.south bound services from Leeds wil stop at the north end of the extended platform, and when departing will go through new points onto what is now the through line in the middle of the station for Leeds bound traffic,in essence they will swing out around the buffers fot the Kirkgate services (wiil they renumber the paltform?)New main to main points will also allow southh bound services to use plat two as wellLeeds bound services will have the option of going into eith the extended platform one or two as they do now.Platform two departures to Leeds normally go through very tight 20mph points,a nightmare in slippy weather that we get this time of year. The plan showed that services departing plat two will now actually go into Prison sidings where some new points will give a 40mph lead back onto the main line. All small adjustments (if they happen) but these will help speed up arrivals and departures for southbound services, offer two platforms for north and south bound services and will mean a smaller likely hood of a north bound train trying to leave palt two at 3mph because of wheel slip caused by poor railhead conditions and a train trying to negotiate a very tight angled 2o mph point work.
