If by funny you mean depressingly typical then I'm with you Ravey. China seem to be doing all the right things ont he international stage asn we seem to just chuck "human rights abuse" at them. Well we do our fair share of that and possibly do more damage in protecting some people's human rights than the Chinese do in "abusing" them. Most tend to be criminals who's "rights" get abused.

Funny that isnt it,we send £1.4bn to India for the games and in 2009/2010 the budget for their (ahem)much needed space program was £1.31bn.All of that extreme poverty and they wish to stage international games and go into space.I think we are mugs.

The practice of giving aid of any kind to a nuclear power with a space program generally accepted to be a future world power is a strange one. We read everyday int he papers of Indioan takeovers of British companies (Blackburn rovers being the most high prfile this week), we lose call centre job to them all the time.I can't see how it is justified. They clearly don't need it. India is a wealthy country it's just not that evenly distributed. That isn'y our fault. Historic guilt complex perhaps? Do we feel we owe them it? We probably do.

China is indeed the answer. They've bought trillions of US dollars to the extent that they can control the supply and therefore effect exchange rates. They keep the dollar strong to they can export to the US easier and prevent America trading in their traditional markets. Or something like that...

That's a popular theory at the moment. Would be interesting to see it float on a real market.

With the rising living standards of China, India and the developing countries it will be interesting to see how the world economy will work when there is no longer a cheap source of labour. There would be more of a level playing field - mind you be then I reckon robots will be doing all the work!

Hi Biggee,You say the "Bilderburg Group" (China?) controls the world, and suggest that this is obviously a fact. Maybe you're right, but speaking as devil's advocate, if I'm not to trust the TV news, or the newspapers, what am I to "look around" at, and where do I "do some reading?" If the internet is your answer, surely this is even less trustworthy? We don't know anything about anything really, do we?Being selective about which titbits of fact we wish to believe from friends/TV/radio/newspapers/websites/the bloke in the pub, leads to everybody having a different point of view. It's impossible to say who's right.I hope that makes sense.

In a news item today it reports that Harrods has unveiled the ultimate Christmas gift - a million dollar advent calendar featuring a speedboat and a designer kitchen. At £618,000 it is billed as the most exclusive in the world. The highlights include a Porsche Design Indicator Chronograph watch in rose gold, a designer kitchen and an 8.5 metre speedboat, a pair of gold sunglasses, cufflinks and running shoes also feature behind the calendar's windows (some items are only illustrated in the calendar to be collected later). Just five of the calendars are available worldwide, one for each continent. I've no doubt that they will sell. It's nice to see that some people still have the money!
