The lake is filthy, I canot understand why anyone would want/ be let in it. - Went in when I was a kid and was washing silt out of my hair for ages after! Also there are objects at the banks like metal spikes sticking up and broken glass. Awful to be in great to look at!

Looking at last years event pics, they clambered out onto some decking (maybe from a pontoon??), that's near the cafe isn't it? I've not done anything like a Triathlon, but have ridden Cyclo-Cross in Roundhay Park.Way back in November 1991, there was an event called 'The Nations Cup'.It was a professional level event (by invitation only), but also had supporting (open) events.I rode in the support, but what I recall suffered immensely.THEN.... in February 1992, there was the World Cyclo-Cross Championships in the park, on the same course (the 'Nations' was also a course/logistics 'checker')One of our own riders won the Junior event, gaining his 'Rainbow-Jersey', & gold-medal!!That was Roger Hammond, who is riding for Cervelo, & presently taking part in the 'Tour Of Britain'

I thought swimming was banned in the lake due to dangerous currents (from where I don't know) - in light of the drownings over the past few years I only knew about it because I helped marshal last year. No marketing whatsoever. Watched the swim then went to Wike to watch the cycling.
