The info on Wikipedia is the biggest load of BULL I have ever read, every area has its problems, but Middleton and Belle Isle aint that bad.Who puts these things up, anyone reading it would be frightened to death of entering the area.
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

Apologies for bumping an old thread, but I have to disagree.Recently (July) went on a pilgramage back to the Manor Farm, and the place is a sinkhole, to put it mildly.I was confronted by about 8 little chavrunts - aged about 15, I guess, with the charming greeting "Who the f*** are you, c***? Best get outta here before we f*** you up!"I am very large, have a nasty temper and wasn't going to let these little rats stop me from revisiting my childhood, and I told them so, in words they could understand. Along the lines of "I lived here before you were born. Now go away. Immediately. Or I will be vexed."Something like that anyway. They left me be. Only sensible decision some of those little twunts will make in their lives.Shame. Rest of Miggy was great, everyone very nice, saw some old faces. But the Manor Farm/Newhall is a shithole, and sadly I can make no apologies for saying so.You can never go back, right? It was a great place to grow up waybackthen. As my uncle said - you were the first to move there in the 60s it was new, there was pride (first indoors WC for my mum). That was a community. It doesn't exist anymore. How I wish he wasn't right.

Funny you should post this Big Vern. Having lost my father a fortnight ago my family plan to have his ashes interned at St Mary's so I took a trip up there for the first time in about 15 years and had pretty much the same experience The (farm) was going down hill fast then and seems to have hit rock bottom now. Same hostile reception as yourself but I just laughed at em and they sloped of knuckles dragging behind em. As for the Newhall's especial the crescent my old street I was surprised how little had changed. If anything quite smart now mostly private houses. Have to say the whole trip left me melancholy to say the least. As for community I don't think that exists in many places any more. All I found was a longing for times long gone.

Many years ago I attended Belle Isle Comprehensive which had Mr Slee as headmaster and according to him the area was named Belle Isle after a captured French warship that fought on Nelson's side at the battle of Waterloo. I also seem to remember a picture of HMS the Belle Isle hanging in the Hall.
