That would be interesting - they already have a store at the junction of York Road and Barwick Road a couple of miles away which already has planning permission for redevelopment into a much needed bigger store - no doubt prompted by Aldi having bought and secured planning on the site of the former Lion and Lamb pub opposite. Davey can you just confirm for me - is that on the site of the 'new' pub, demolished some years ago now, or the original Lion and Lamb building still standing which has also been offered for sale for some time.Surprised there is approval - traffic can be manic enough there just with Netto customers.

The Aldi is supposedly going on the site of the 'new' pub, which was demolished and the site sold with indecent haste a few years ago.I think it could be three years ago now and still no sign of any work starting. As you say the original Lion and Lamb, latterly a guest house, has been up for sale for some time. It's an old building though - I wonder if it's listed? And at the risk of veering off topic completely, the former council works depot just up the road (based around the former lodge for Seacroft Hall) was also sold to developers around the same time as the pub was demolished, and there is no sign of anything happening there either.

I cycled past both sites the other day. Morrisons have a staff recruitment notice up on the old Tradex site,Whilst the old Yorks Water site is gonna be a Netto. Both a bit nearer for me than trekking to Morrisons in the Merrion Centre.

Once again as a Morlean I wonder why none of the continental supermarkets feel they'd benefit from an outlet in Morley. Netto and Aldi are next door to one another in Batley, Netto are on Old Lane. Lidl (my favourite of the three) are in Dewsbury and Ossett. But nothing in Morley. Are they frightened of Morrisons? or Asda?Sainsbury's whilst technically in Morley is really at the White Rose. It's a puzzle - like Weatherspoons not having an outlet here either. There is a Netto in Beeston so not too far away.

The site looks a little to small for a supermarket so i googled it & apperently there is a planning application for Morrison's to take over the old Tradex site. Does any one know any more about this??? Morrison's were advertising for jobs at this new store last week in the papers. Application forms are being distributed in July.

Just seen Asda's bought Netto, presumably that means we'll now have a Morrisons, Asda, Co-op and (small) Sainsbury within about 500 yds of each other, and the massive Tesco being built down the road soon, suppose it's good for competition.

That sort of fits in with the announcement - why spend money building a new store when you're about to sell up?I'm also concerned that the competition people won't let Asda have two other stores so near the big store at Killingbeck, so the Harehills one might never happen and the Seacroft site could be sold off, not necessarily to another supermarket chain. Remember how many stores Morrisons had to sell when they bought Safeway (most of which were bought by Tesco, but that is another story).Personally I think it looks like a bad deal for those on a budget - Netto might not have had the widest range or the best customer service, but they were cheap (cheaper than Asda), they had regular good offers on branded items and most of the own brand stuff was of a decent quality. At least it looks like work on the new Aldi on York Road is underway now.

The new Netto opened this week on Harehills Lane.Called in today, excellent !All brand new of course, good car park layout, beware the new trafiiclights on Harehills Lane though.Nearly all well known brands on sale, hardly an own brand product in sight.I suppose this will be the template for all stores since the Asda takeover, and then we will see the own brand come into play.Very busy instore today.

Morrisons were interviewing for posts at the harehills store last week, they recruit ahead of time and train people at existing stores first.Got shortlisted to interview for an admin post, but when i got there they told me that their idea of admin involves going around the isles scanning things for £6.08 an hour, and btw would i be interested in any other positions in the store?Waste of my (edted for content) time and theirs, and i'm seriously considering boycotting them now, had no idea they really treated their staff and prospective staff that badly.    ------------------------------Please watch the language, even if disguised to circumnavigate the automatic content filter it is usually recognised and thus is not welcome here under the terms of forum membershiip.
