Give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day. But give him a religion and he'll starve to death, while praying for a fish.

They were on North Street, and yes they made road rollers, I know this because I applied for a job there in March 1965-before starting on the road to where I am now, with Levertons at Gildersome. Worth a trip on to North Street, don't get down there much for the traffic flows but Greens I think is now 'apartments'and the conversion is as well conserved as poss considering some acts of vandalism you see

Hi BLAKEY McLarens were on Leathley Road i think this runs between Jack Lane and Hunslet Road.

What a fascinating area this was Sundowner. The changes could be seen almost daily in the late 1960s and early 1970s,while such things as building of Leek Street flats and the total alteration of the five way junction at the bottom of Dewsbury Road were carried out. At that time I was a driver on the 74/6 routes to Belle Isle and Middleton via Jack Lane and, until it was chopped in half, Hillidge Road. Therewas an interesting pub with industrial atmosphere in Grape Street - The British Queen I believe it was. Fasciinating times they were indeed.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Meadow Lane Gas Works .Hunslet Goods Yard.John Fowlers.I remember the British Queen i was too young to go in at the time but i did go into the Union for old times sake before it was pulled down.Leeds is what it is today because of areas like this. We should not forget the graft the workers of days gone by put in to help make the Leeds we live in today.

There is nothing wrong with nostalgia Blakey i remember getting on the tram on Hunslet Moor to go to Middleton Woods then walking back down past Park Side Rugby Ground then on an old railway track that used to go to Pottery Fields. We used to call this line the Niaga Line why i dont know it ran over the main line that went into Hunslet Goods Yard. Also the new single decker trams Leeds bought i think there were two i know one was purple they ran on Hunslet Road.I dont think they lasted long i think the tram service was closed down within months if not weeks of them comeing into service.
