I say 1991 as I could be a year or two out.I think it was the end of July and the first two weeks in August. I remember the Yorkshire Post building at the end of Wellington street had a digital thermometer and i am sure the temperature on there was 97 deg F one day. I also was cycling at the time and when it got to the hottest days I was cycling through melted tar on the roads. For once a barbeque summer LOLCan anyone else remember this? According to temperature records for Leeds Bradford airport the highest temp in the last 20 years was Aug 1990 - 90 deg F. LBA is higher than central Leeds & with the heat island effect in a city it may well have reached 97 deg F. at the YP building.
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!
