I'm really pleased you all enjoyed that.CHRIS!! your a star lol.I thought you would like that one.Do you drive through Standedge on your duties Chris? If you do-how long does it take a train to travel through? If you don't know.. then time it for me when you next go through mate.Cheers guys      Sorry mate, dont go that way (to the dark side),i do Bramhope though, which isnt so scary since we had the new headlights fitted on the HSTs.i noticed how convenient it was that those metal gates at the tunnel mouth "just happened" to be "unlocked"

The only gates unlocked were the portal gates to the canal at the Marsden end. They run a short trip through there at the weekends. It's well worth a visit.P.s Bramhope is a mere baby compared to Standedge lol

We've started something of a 'Standedge mania' throughout the narrow boat and canal community too lol http://www.grannybuttons.com/

That link has worked Phill Thank you, will give this my full attention tomorrow when I get in from work.Brandy - would you mind if I just corrected you on something, that is indeed a good shot taken from the top of the tunnels but the water course you are looking at is in fact not the canal, it's the run off for the three resavoires on top of Standedge.the road crosses the run off and the run off in turn crosses the railway before dropping down into the river colne, the pool you can see in the background is a balancing pool to feed the canal, this is also, as far as I remember, fed from the run off channel. If you look immediatley beyond the railway line you can see a thin line of trees and directly behind them you can just make out a narrow boat on the canal, this is the canal basin immediatly in front of the tunnel mouth and the building is the old goods transhipment warehouse which is now the excellent visitors centre and museum.Just another point Phill, you said in your article that the railway was washed out by flooding from the resavoir just beyond the aquaduct, it's my understanding that, while this contributed to the accident the bulk of the water came from the three large resavoirs that are on top of Standedge. of course once this cascaded down the run off it would have burst the little feeder res at the bottom before breaking through the retaining wall and in turn destroying the slow line bridge at tunnel end.
