TROJAN WROTE :- "Second I agree wholeheartedly with you about some of the presenters. I won't name names, but the female one on the breakfast programme seems to have verbal diarrhoea and mental constipation. On Monday because she couldn't shut up she missed one traffic slot entirely. I have it on on a morning for a. the local weather, b. the traffic and c. the local sport (good tributes to David Topliss this morning) "---------------------------------------------------------------------------------My turn to agree with you Trojan - although I have to say that compared with her usual male counterpart she is positively quiet!! - for there is absolutely no quelling his endless prattling, and he can actually be heard pausing for breath only when he's no choice. And as for our roving reporter "SUPER ******" - and they mean it and he even says it himself at times - he has to be heard to be believed. While travelling yesterday morning on the new commuter river bus he advised us that "mediaeval warehouses" could be seen on the banks - my word they are lasting well !!Then at lunchtime there is a phone in programme for two hours - any listener who dares to say anything that she disagrees with is very rapidly and loudly slapped down and shouted over.I would say that the last really good presenter was Peter Levy - civil, good natured, competent and genuinely humorous - and his banter with Paul Hudson the weatherman was always a treat. That's what a local station should be like. When driving out of the area the RDS sometimes picks up Radio York (or is he Humberside now??) and its like hearing an old respected friend again.

Only one or two each way to start with, and drinks and snacks available at teatime. Journey time 40 minutes, with a stop or two en route, and I think the lady said £2.40 each way. Sounds like a very nice alternative to the inner city congestion on the roads, and no parking problems. Apparently the vessel, The Black Prince, has been upgraded to the very most stringent standards for canal and river use where fares are charged.

Don't get me wrong - I know the Japanese were cruel, and did some dreadful things, but what I couldn't get her to accept was that morally they had just as much right to try and conquer Malaya as we the British had.

I would love to have a verbal dustup with her, but as there is no fair contest I would not be prepared to be "shouted down" and cut short on the air, even with a clear conscience.

I was more thinking of memories of how good it used to be compared to today. I used to like Martin Kelner, although he's a Manc he's been in Leeds long enough to be adopted, IMO he was the best most professional broadcaster they had and they dropped him without a word to the listeners - here today gone tomorrow.

Martin Kelner is on Real Radio now, i think on a Saturday.I flick through a few radio stations on my travels at work & sorry to go off the topic of Radio Leeds but that damn Simon "camp" Logan of Radio Aire really annoys me. He is currently having a dispute with his boss. This morning he aired an argument which he had recorded on his mobile regarding his misbehavior on his shows. Any body agree with me that it sounds obviously very very fake? To be honest i cant think of a decent morning to afternoon Yorkshire radio station at the moment. They seem all to have a gobby lass & fake bloke presenting them with station nicking the same competitions from each other.

Martin Kelner is excellent, naturally quick witted. Seems to come and go on Radio Leeds. First time I heard Mrs Merton was on his late night Saturday show quite a few years back - very funny. No visuals to give the game away that she was in reality a twenty something comedian and not a middle aged agony aunt.I recently heard a voice on Radio Cumbria that I recognised and checking their web site discovered that it was Ian Timms who worked at Radio Leeds for ten years.Nice warm, relaxed style. I think he may have been on the morning show before the current horror that is “Andrew and Georgey”.On the positive side (for once) I quite enjoy the Durbervilles folk and roots show on Sunday evenings.
