There was an item on Look North the other evening and a resident who saw a theft of flags in progress began filming expecting it would frighten them off. One of those involved hid his face with a hoody and threatened him. Then, the pick-up they were using was driven off with one of them sitting on the back, hiding the reg plate with his legs. The council has sprayed areas of flags with "Smart Water" which is invisible in ordinary light but shows up under ultra violet. Probably no deterrent to thieves who will soon get rid, although some unsuspecting householder may have a patio that glows under disco lighting.
