If people wanted to belittle your car, suit etc they were liable to say " Did you get that with Green Shield Stamps ?" The whole thing was not held in very high esteem.

I don't know when green shield stamps were introduced but I remember a teacher at my junior school, in the late 50's, boasting that he had purchased hundreds of completed books so that he could get a large ticket item ( maybe a fridge) from Greenshield at a knockdown price.
