Seriously off topics and nowt to do with Secret Leeds, but an important stance, imho!! Now, this received a bit of scorn, but something needs to be done. I really think that if enough people carry the following out, it may make a difference!! If you don't agree, apologies. If you do, then all you have to do is pass it on to as many people as possible and it may do a bit to help! It may not, but what have we to lose by trying?See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it Petrol is hitting 107p a litre in some areas now; soon we will be faced with paying 110p a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day' campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join in! Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take an aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS, not sellers, control the market place. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... Keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send I t to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... And those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... And so on, by the time the Message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have Been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... .. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! Acting together we can make a difference If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc. I.e. Boycott BP and Esso.

I've seen this on another forum I use, I always go to Tesco/Asda for petrol anyway ... but who supplies them? I had assumed a large company ...

Yes croggy, probably esso or even BP, but better pay asda / tesco prices than the forecourt prices of the others. Ie, better to pay 101.00 per litre than 107 that some are charging.

Unfortunately this is just another chain email with a lot of flaws in it and the criticism is with the content trather than of Simon who posted in good faith.Firstly if it was distributed as requested there would be a lot of people receiving duplicates so it would never reach 30million consumers anyway and many of those it does reach will not be petrol/diesel buyers.Secondly 69p a litre is a pipe dream. It might just spark Esso and BP into lobbying the government for a reduction in fuel duty but the government is unlikely to respond to pressure anyway and at best there would only be a slight reduction.Sooner or later it might click with the government that stinging the motorist with increases in fuel duty (by far the biggest component in the proce we pay) is adding to the inflationary pressure as it also has the knock on effect of increased transport costs being incorported in proce rises of all goods and services that rely on road transport. Until that happens……………..

I'm obviously not naive enough to expect the figures are accurate, but, take a look.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/p ... ml/1.stmIt might be better for the govmnt to stop the spending of billions in the middle east and be more prudent than to rip off the general public back here in the UK.

it takes about 5p a litre to make, the oil companies charge about 30p a litre, the rest is taken by GREEDY effing governments, tax when you buy your car,tax on your insurance, tax to put it on the road, tax on your fuel and all paid for with YOUR hard earned cash that YOU already paid tax on...GREED,no other word for it!

Yes, Wiggy. Say 70% of the price of a litre is duty, we are then charged 17.5% VAT on top. When I mentioned this to an American friend of mine, he said, "Jeez, is that legal?"

Yes but is it all bad?I can remember when it took ages to put 10 quid's worth of juice into the car - now I can do it in no time!Think of all the time you save..
