A gentleman died yesterday. Sid Waddell,The Voice of Darts.Although he was not born in these parts he lived in Pudsey. He was a great character.I first met him about 20 years ago when I was driving for a Pudsey based Private Hire Co. I went to pick him up at his home and took him to Leeds City Station.I did this jouney with him on quite a few occasions over the years and we were on first name terms. He was a lovely guy who liked a laugh and a joke.He had no "edge "to him at all and would talk to anybody. He never forgot his roots. R.I.P. Sid.

I liked Sid. A great example of someone who dragged themselves up by their bootstraps. He came out with some classics too. Sid first really came to public prominence through the Indoor League programme, which from memory was a Yorkshire TV in Leeds production. He was also a prolific writer, producer, you name it.Coincidentally I read his autobiography recently and while he didn't forget his roots he didn't have a lot good to say about where he grew up, or what it's become. I did find it a bit hard to read since most, if not all, towns and cities have a Jezza Kyle contingent. I'm sure Pudsey will have its hoodies and chavs, for want of a better phrase. But a sincere RIP to Sid.
