This photo (which I took today, May 12 2012) shows an intriguing construction that has very recently appeared on Briggate. On asking I found it is part of an art exhibition called 'OverWorlds & UnderWorlds' that is to run from May 18 to May 20 (I assume this structure has been put in place early). In a leaflet about the event it states "OverWorlds & UnderWorlds is a free, multi-location event. Allow yourself a couple of leisurely hours to explore". There will be features and events at various sites in central Leeds including such as the Dark Arches and Granary Wharf, shop windows etc.I think the road works are part of this structure, which is said to be of a tree that has grown from under the Earth and taken a ship.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Hi drapesy.Perhaps boat might have been a better word. An helpful woman did describe to me what the structure was symbolising but I'm not good at 'getting' such things. It was certainly attracting a lot of attention, but that would partly be due to its large size. Even to my non-artistic mind it is though a very interesting structure.

Interesting - but why would a boat be sailing down Briggate? And has that tree grown up from the abandoned toilets under the street? Is this the reason the Dark Arches have had a "road closed" sign at the end of them for the last few days?

I pointed him in the right direction of a few relevant threads on S.L e.t.c. He didn't even have the common courtesy to type 'thanks' then hit the send button.Bad manners, and lack of courtesy really is a bug bear with me
