I can never understand these claims of huge losses companies seem to make. Royal Mail were the biggest culprits for that, something stupid like loosing a million pound a day making a loss of 365 million a year. The other statistic they claimed was for every letter they delivered they lost a penny on it.Once in work time learning (we called work time lying) they tried this propaganda again, so I said they should put the price of stamps up 2p and make a penny profit on every letter instead, that was rather simple to remedy.Oh nooooo we can't do that said the area manager with a look of horror on his face I said yes I know you can't, you'd rather go crying to the government claiming your loosing these vast amounts of money so you can get the nod to cut the service and axe 30.000 jobs instead!I was proved right, that's exactly what happened. I'm really not sure how companies expect people to believe they make such huge looses, it's unsustainable and ludicrous.I see Johnstones profits are down to £28.4 million, well to me a profit of 28 million pounds doesn't really look like a huge lose. Once again it's a warning of more job cuts at the paper, less quality and the price going up. This is the only reason these companies make these cry wolf statements. After a 'consultation' with the unions involved (of which non of it will make the slightest decision as it is already decided) a press statement will be released in the next few months announcing huge job losses and cost cutting measures. There is true loss making, and manipulated figures lets pretend loss making. They are as see through as cellophane!! End..

I've just been looking at the share perfomance of Johnston Press PLC. From at least 485p in May 2007 they had fallen to around 5p in March 2009. They then rose to at least 43p in September 2009 but then continued their decline and have been around their current level for some time (the price today is currently around 5½p, down about ¼p).

I'm afraid the decline has been going on for some time. With the evolution of the Internet giving more choice the news papers have had their day. As a busy person I only want to read specific topics so buying a paper is not an option. If I have a week off work I sometimes buy a Sunday broadsheet that's lasts me all week and usually covers everything that I want to read. The local snippets of news are poorly put together and lack any real substance. I guess apart from the couple of older head journalists the rest are cheaper juniors who are starting out in their careers. Sites like LOL will make life even more difficult for the traditional news paper.
Is it me or has Leeds gone mad

I can see the Evening Post being 'merged' with the Yorkshire Post and published in the morning. The Newcastle Journal went tabloid a few years ago and it didn't affect its sales, or there might be a City and a County edition.

For quite some time now on the front page of the YEP (which likely now stands for 'Your Early Paper') it has stated "At the heart of Leeds your city your paper".

It would be like government to try to control the most archaic form of news media around
