There are currently so many vacant premises in that area that I wonder if there are plans to redevelop the site? Admittedly most of them are 'To Let' so presumably there are no plans, yet! With the closure of the Multiyork furniture store virtually all of the long Boar Lane frontage from Bishopgate Street to Mill Hill is now vacant. I suspect the Trinity developement across the road must be having an effect on letting and/or selling the vacant premises. The area will though soon become an eyesore (if it is not already). The right side of Mill Hill (looking from Boar Lane) already looks run down.I have put a photo that I took on October 24 2011 showing the view from Boar Lane looking down Mill Hill. It gives some indication of the situation. I took some photos looking along Boar Lane from next to City Square but they do not show the vacant premises situation there well enough. I will though post some other photos taken in the area covered by this thread.

The photo (taken on Oct 24 2011) shows the view at the Mill Hill-Bishopgate Street junction. The Discovery Inn on Bishopgate Street seems to be 'To Let'. Hidden by a traffic light there is a 'For Sale' sign above Spencer's bar (late Black Lion). I don't know if that is for Spencer's or the premises above it. I had to delay sending this post as a short spell of lightning and thunder started just as I was about to post (I always close down my computer in such weather).

This photo (taken on Oct 24 2011) shows the Aviva premises at what seemed to be the only obviously still open place between where Multiyork was and Bar Censa. I also found it of interest in that it has a revolving door, which is not at all common nowadays.

With the ever increasing movement of shops to outside the city plus the redevelopment of other areas in the city, it must stand to reason that some areas (particularly in a recession) will fall by the wayside. Its just sad that its in such a prominent part of the city to visitors. But Im guessing this results in high rental costs and is the reason why. As far as nightlife is concerned I just cant see this area being of interest to new bars/clubs.

I walked along Boar Lane last week on one of my now infrequent trips to Leeds and thought to myself how depressing it was down there. Maybe the upper storeys will become more apartments ?

I was trying to find the owner of the Bar Censsa/ Griffin Hotel building and went to the site that of the letting agent, it is currently under offer so might not be empty much longer. Also I was taking photographs and noticed a light on, on the 2nd floor and a light on, on the 3rd floor so the upstairs must be getting used by somebody.

That's intersting Cath. I hope though that nobody is filling in the rumoured 'tunnel' underneath! Or perhaps Bar Censa is their current way out of it!
