The online YEP has an amusing short report filed today (June 23 2011) in which it states "Motorists had to take emergency action to avoid hitting a peacock which was strutting its stuff on a road leading out of a Leeds town. The bird, thought to be an Indian Blue Peacock, was seen wandering across the street where Hough Side Road turns into Pudsey Road around 9.30am today". There was no mention of what happened to the bird.

Talking of crossings has got me thinking (not that I do much of that!). I may be wrong but I seem to recall once reading that the first ever traffic lights were in Leeds.
