Strange sunset this evening - 2 suns

Don't know if anyone saw this - my brother phoned me from Skipton so must have been visible over quite a big areaLooks like 2 suns.

Blimey, looks dark up there already. It's still very bright down here.

I would have liked to have seen that but I didn't. I think the rainbow-like one is known as a sundog. In ideal conditions a sundog can be seen on both sides of the Sun. They are caused by ice crystals very high up, usually when the Sun is low.    
A rainbow is a ribbon that Nature puts on when she washes her hair.

Sun dog it is I think - my brother said he saw this light on either side of the sun in Skipton (I took the photo in Leeds - think the darkness is misleading)Good example here from the Wikihttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_dog

I live in Gomersal and went out for a drive, I couldnt figure it out , it looked like a rainbow with no middle, then I drove down the hill towards Baliff Bridge, you get a full panaorama to the west from there, was amazing, two suns !

I sent the photo to Look North so hopefully they have a better photo or even mention it on today's weather.

My little niece(only 11) had this one pictured on the calender news last week.she took it from that patch of wasteland near the airport.

I've just been out but haven't seen any sundogs tonight. There are though some fascinating cloud formations around, including some intriguing tendril like ones. Lovely scene but going already.
