There used to be two pop companies in Morley there was Scotspop at Drigh - where the Kings Chinese is now I think and Gomersall's Magpie Minerals at Tingley. Gomersalls defintitely used to produce ginger beer and on the label it said "Gomersalls Stone Ginger Beer" I'm not sure when they packed in.Fentimans, botanic mineral waters which are available in pubs, cafes and posh shops all over the country are now made on Tyneside, but the business originall started in Cleckheaton.

I've long been interested in local pop companies as everywhere seems to have had at least one, so this is rather interesting. A few weeks ago I found a framed collection of labels from T. Greenwoods of Todmorden in a shop in Saltaire, which is rather apt because I'm a Greenwood (Sheffield variety, not Calderdale) and I'm getting married some time this year, hopefully in Saltaire. They made a concoction called Vino-Tod that I'd like to find out more about.

There was a big under-age drinking fuss in Maine, USA last year, where Fentiman's is available. Apparently, their lemonade has a naturally occuring alcohol content (less than 0.3%, though to cover themselves, it says 0.5% on the label.) The local Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition people got involved, suggesting either a total ban, or limiting it to over 21s. Consequently, sales to students went through the roof!
