Hi AllWas wandering up Upper Briggate today and saw some activity around what was Nash's fish and chip restaurant. Closed down years ago. Asked the workmen there what was going on and they said they were renovating the place. It is still owned by the same people and will be re-opening in about 6 weeks time. Yippee! Hope they can get some of the same waitresses back, its nice to be served by someone older than myself.Since it shut down have been using Jakes down Kirkgate, its not bad but quite a bit downmarket from Nash's. Surprised that there are so few fish and chip restaurants in central Leeds, especially since they were so plentiful years ago - sign of the times. All the best - John

If I remember rightly the developers of the Lewis's site have put up some money, as seems to happen these days, which is being used to create a public space in the St John's Garden of Rest - I thought it already was actually, but then...There have been planning applications in associated with this and the area and certainly one was to demolish one/some of those buildings but I don't remember the details. The newer buildings fronting onto the main road have been talked about before - there are quite a few pics of the area being cleared and rebuilt on Leodis.

Hi there ChameleonThanks for that didnt know about the redevelopment will keep an eye out. Was in St Johns churchyard, it is finished, maybe there is going to be further.I would be very surprised if the Nash's building was substantially altered, its got a blue plaque outside saying how it was built in 17?? (forgot the exact date, late 1700s I think) Must be listed in some form and be one of the older buildings in Leeds. Still its surprising what money in the right pockets can achieve!ATB - John
